Washington, DC—The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) is pleased to announce that Nicholas Serfass, AIA, LEED AP joined staff in May as the new Assistant Director, Intern Development Program. In this position he will help support and guide the IDP program as it continues to evolve with the architecture profession.
Before joining NCARB, Serfass was a project architect with the Richmond, VA firm Baskervill, where he spent several years working in the healthcare division. In this role, he specialized in design and construction administration for large hospital campuses, including Winchester Medical Center and the University of Virginia Health System.
During his tenure at Baskervill, Serfass helped lead an in-house IDP program, which was awarded the IDP Outstanding Firm of the Year in 2007. His efforts focused on demystifying the IDP process and preparing new candidates for the ARE. He is a proponent of an involved and interactive mentorship, and continues to serve as a mentor to interns in the program and community whenever possible.
Serfass holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Miami. He is licensed to practice architecture in the states of Virginia and Florida. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, has achieved the qualification of LEED Accredited Professional, and holds the NCARB Certificate for national reciprocity.
