In Remembrance: Richard M. Monahon Jr., AIA, NCARB

Richard M. Monahon Jr., AIA, NCARB, and his wife Mary “Duffy” Monahon, died from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident on Sunday, 27 January 2013.

Monahon was licensed in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts and was principal architect and owner of the firm Richard M. Monahon, Jr., AIA, Architects in Peterborough, NH. The firm has provided services in architecture, planning, and interior design in southern New Hampshire since 1975.

Monahon was an active NCARB Member Board Member, and had recently been elected as chairperson of the State of New Hampshire Board of Architects. He also served as a member of the Practice Analysis Steering Committee, the Practice Analysis Task Force, and as a member of the NCARB Education Committee since 2010. Additionally, he represented NCARB by serving on multiple NAAB visiting teams.

His wife Duffy worked for Monahon’s firm, and also served as chairperson of the Peterborough Heritage Commission. The Monahons are survived by a daughter, Sophia Grant Monahon, who is in architectural graduate school at the University of Texas.
