“Each community has its own unique set of challenges, and smart growth demands flexible response. Volumes I and II offer a menu of options that can be mixed and matched to fit local circumstances, local visions, and local values.”
—excerpt from Getting to Smart Growth II
More and more communities are seeking smart growth plans based on the old Main Street model of pedestrian-friendly streets cradling a town center. Twentieth century post-war “urban sprawl” is being replaced with developments that support economic growth by creating vital neighborhoods with a range of options for housing, public spaces, commercial developments, and transportation.
Getting to Smart Growth II examines the wide variety of tools and policies that are available to create these diverse, more livable communities. It presents case studies that show where these approaches have been successfully implemented, and provides dozens of practice and financial tips.
