NCARB Grant Background
The NCARB Grant for the Integration of Practice and Education in the Academy was initiated in 2006 to address the need for support to create educational initiatives that integrate practice and education. The NCARB Grant was created to support efforts that, for a variety of reasons, have not materialized into for-credit curricular activities.
The NCARB Grant expanded the focus on the NCARB Prize Program, initiated in 2001 in response to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching's report, Building Community: A New Future for Architecture Education and Practice (The Boyer Report). The NCARB Prize for Creative Integration of Practice and Education in the Academy was designed to showcase and reward diverse programs and activities that integrate practice and education in an academic setting. NCARB celebrated the 10th and final year of the NCARB Prize in 2011 and is continuing to support the academy's efforts to integrate practice and education with increased emphasis on the NCARB Grant. Response to both programs demonstrates that they are highly valued and have increased the integration of practice and education in academic settings.
