NCARB Award Funding

Available Funds

A total of $100,000 will be available for up to three Awards. The NCARB Award Jury will review all eligible proposals and determine the award amounts for each NCARB Award. NCARB reserves the right not to make any awards based on the quality of proposals and may not award the full $100,000 available.

Notification of Awards

The NCARB Award Jury meets in November to select Award recipients and determine funding amounts. Each recipient institution will receive an award certificate and a letter outlining the terms and conditions of the NCARB Award. These terms include submission of interim and final reports and supporting documents, which will be published by NCARB. [Award Conditions]

Duration of Funding

Each NCARB Award will be for a one-year time period. Project development must begin in January and be finalized in time for the class/seminar/studio to be offered no later than the fall term. A request for an extension of the project development or the project implementation time period must be submitted to NCARB in writing no later than three months before the beginning of the time period.

Payment of Awards

The NCARB Award check will be payable to the academic division (school, department, etc.) that houses the NAAB-accredited program or candidate program in which the project director(s) is employed. Awards will be made in three payments:

  1. 50 percent upon notice of award and acceptance of the NCARB Award Conditions
  2. 35 percent upon NCARB’s receipt and approval of the Interim Report
  3. 15 percent upon NCARB’s receipt and approval of the Final Report

Alternate payment schedules will be considered only if explained and justified in the Proposal Budget.

In the event that a proposal submitted by co-directors in different departments within the same institution is awarded an NCARB Award, funds will be paid to the architecture school.

In the event that a proposal submitted by co-directors in different institutions is awarded an NCARB Award, funds will be divided equally among the institutions unless requested otherwise in the Award Proposal Budget spreadsheet.
