Training Requirements Existing

(former training requirements for NCARB Certification)

This section explains certification requirements in effect through June 30, 1996.  Architects may use the following as an alternative to the current IDP Training Requirement  ONLY if:

1) The architect was registered by an NCARB member board before July 1, 1996, and has before or after that date satisfied the following training requirements.

OR:
2) The architect satisfied the following training requirements on or before June 30, 1996.

Training Requirements for NCARB Certification
Effective July 1, 1996

2.1 To satisfy the NCARB training standards, an applicant must have at least three years of training credits or have satisfied the IDP training requirements in accordance with the Handbook for Interns and Architects, Chapter One.
NCARB expects that an applicant who has satisfied these training standards will have been exposed to the comprehensive practice of architecture.

Accordingly, each applicant must demonstrate that his or her training has been sufficiently diversified as to include exposure to each of the training areas set forth in the Handbook for Interns and Architects and IDP Guidelines. An applicant with three years of training credits may nonetheless be denied certification if that training is not diversified.
