You should arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled exam appointment.
You will need:
- An official photo ID with a signature (Accepted forms of Primary ID include: a valid drivers license with photo, valid passport with photo, valid military identification with photo, or valid national identification with photo.) This ID must be current (not expired).
In addition to having their photograph taken prior to testing, all candidates will be scanned by a hand-held metal detector and will be required to sign a log book and provide a finger swipe prior to each entry into the testing room, including returns from breaks. All candidates will be required to submit to the scans, with few exceptions. Candidates refusing to be scanned may not be permitted to test.
You must remain in your seat during your examination, except when authorized to leave by test center staff. Each division includes one mandatory 15-minute break.
Scratch paper and pencils are provided and may be replaced as needed during the test. You may not remove scratch paper from the test center under any circumstance.
For full details, please refer to the latest edition of NCARB's ARE Guidelines.
You should notify test center staff immediately if:
- You experience a problem with your computer, or
- An error message appears on the computer screen.
If you experience software or hardware problems, please wait to see if the test center administrator can resolve the problem. The computer software has been designed to suspend testing time in the event your computer must be restarted.
If your technical difficulties cannot be resolved, your examination will be rescheduled at your earliest convenience at no cost.
Reporting Testing Concerns
DO NOT wait to receive your test results before expressing your concerns. You must report concerns in writing within 15 days of your examination to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Filing a report with the test center administrator does NOT satisfy the requirement of notifying email@example.com directly.
A copy of the letter to the firstname.lastname@example.org should also be forwarded to your registration board and NCARB.
Please note that Prometric's former ARE Operations Helpdesk address and e-mail are no longer operational.
Test Center Closings
If you are unsure whether a test center is closed due to inclement weather or any other reason, you should contact the test center directly. If the center is open, it is your responsibility to keep the appointment. If the center is closed, you will be given the opportunity to reschedule. If you are unable to contact the local test center, please visit http://www.prometric.com/en-us/Pages/sitestatus.aspx for a list of test centers that are currently or will be nonoperational and cannot deliver exams.
