New! The e-EVR With e-EVR, interns can track each of their experience reports as well as their overall progress through the IDP easier than ever before. Once submitted by the intern, the report is saved instantly within their Record and a link to the report is sent to the identified supervisor. The status of all reports entered can be viewed on an intern's "My Experience" page. Interns can also view their progress through the IDP and identify any deficiencies so they can work with their supervisor and mentor to develop a plan to gain exposure in those areas. After reviewing the report online and meeting with their intern, supervisors have the option to approve, return for edits, or reject the report. Once the supervisor acts on the report, it is saved to the intern's Record with the updated status. All reports are subject to NCARB's final review once approved by the supervisor. Interns can save a report as a work-in-progress and submit it at a later date. They may also enter reports over any timeframe until the Six-Month Rule is phased in between July 2009 and July 2010. Click here for more information on the Six-Month Rule. The e-EVR is designed to prevent common errors that currently occur on the paper forms, reducing the possibility of rejection during the final evaluation process. The system adds transparency to the IDP reporting process and will reduce processing times. Download NCARB's webcast or podcast of "The e-EVR" to learn more about the new system. New and Improved! 2009 IDP Guidelines It is essential that both interns and supervisors understand the rules and objectives of the IDP in order to complete the program in a timely manner. The IDP Guidelines explain the work settings, training areas, and key terms that interns and supervisors need to know and understand. Besides having a new look, the guidelines have been reorganized to make the content more direct and easier to navigate. There are links throughout the document to help you find what you need. The new edition also includes examples of the upcoming Six-Month Rule and instructions on how to use NCARB's electronic Experience Verification Reporting system (e-EVR). NCARB is committed to doing its part to help the environment. As such, the IDP Guidelines are only available electronically from www.ncarb.org. For more information on the IDP, go to http://www.ncarb.org/idp/index.html. A New Resource For Supervisors: The IDP Supervisor Guidelines Navigating and completing IDP is an intern's responsibility. However, a supervisor should teach, motivate, and help an intern fulfill the requirements of the program and become licensed. A supervisor's knowledge, guidance, and support are valuable to the development of an intern and add to the long-term quality of the profession. Since not all supervisors completed the program to become licensed, the guidelines explain the objectives and requirements of IDP and give architects a better understanding of an intern's expectations. The guidelines should be used as a starting point to build a successful relationship between the interns and supervisors. The guidelines include a list of topics to cover during the introductory meeting with the intern, frequently asked questions, and a list of further resources available from NCARB and AIA. NCARB also offers a webcast and podcast presented by Director, IDP Harry Falconer Jr., AIA, on successful supervising at http://www.ncarb.org/webcasts/index.html.Six-Month Rule NCARB's new e-EVR will prevent you from submitting reports that do not adhere to the Six-Month Rule on your respective implementation date. Once you have submitted your experience report into e-EVR, those training units are protected while any loose ends are tied up. You will not be affected by any delays caused by your supervisor or NCARB. However, submitted training units can be lost if they are deemed invalid by your supervisor, or if they are not earned in accordance with the rules of IDP. Extensions for active military service, serious medical conditions, and the birth or adoption of a child will be available. Click here to see examples on how the Six-Month Rule will work. Or, you can download the webcast or podcast of "The Six-Month Rule" presented by Assistant Director, IDP Nick Serfass, AIA, LEED AP, and Manager, Programs, Rachel Kros, AIA.
