Celebration of Cities: An International Ideas
Competition
Here's a unique opportunity for architects and
students of architecture to contribute to the "practical and
sustainable renaissance of the world's cities." Both architects
and students of architecture are invited to take part in the international
consultation, or ideas competition, "Celebration of Cities,"
sponsored by the International Union of Architects.
The "Celebration of Cities" initiative targets all types
of housing and urban sites, including modern suburbs, shanty towns,
and historic cities. The primary objective of the competition is
to collect ideas and create a global database of "small-scale,
sustainable solutions" that are also simple, economical, and
have an immediate effect.
The American Institute of Architects is overseeing U.S. contributors,
with co-sponsoring provided by NCARB, the American Architectural
Foundation, and the American Institute of Architecture Students.
A number of important competition details are available on AIA's
web site. The UIA
web site also provides useful information.
Architects and students of architecture interested in taking
part in the competition must register with the AIA no later than
October 6, 2003. To learn more about the "Celebration
of Cities" initiative, visit the web sites noted above or contact
the AIA's Director, International Relations, Ellen
Delage, Assoc. AIA.
