CSI Honors Low-Slope Roofing II
Washington, DCThe National Council of Architectural Registration
Boards is pleased to announce that internationally recognized roofing
technology expert Thomas Lee Smith, AIA, CSI, RRC, will receive
the Construction Specifications Institutes Publications Commendation,
Special Publication for Low-Slope Roofing II, a title in
NCARBs continuing education monograph series. Smith will be
honored in April 2003 at CSIs annual convention in Chicago.
Low-Slope Roofing II, the tenth monograph published by NCARB,
investigates alternatives to traditional built-up roofingincluding
modified bitumen, single-ply, sprayed polyurethane foam, metal,
and liquid-applied systems. It is the companion volume to Low-Slope
Roofing I, written by Justin Henschell, FAIA, and Paul Buccellato,
AIA. Both titles are among 13 NCARB monographs currently available.
Through CSIs recognition of Low-Slope Roofing II, the
author is appreciative for the greater exposure that the monograph
will have within the construction industry. Although architects
were the intended audience for LSR II, it is a useful document
for others interested in roofing, including specifiers, engineers,
roof consultants, roofing contractors, and roofing manufacturers
and their representatives.
A sole practitioner, Thomas Smith is president of TLSmith Consulting
Inc., based in Rockton, Illinois. He specializes in architectural
technology and research, with an emphasis on roofing systems. Smith
is a licensed architect and holds the NCARB Certificate. From 1988
to 1998, he was the research director for the National Roofing Contractors
Association. Smith has authored more than 100 magazine articles,
numerous papers for national and international technical conferences,
a chapter in two books, and various technical publications.
The NCARB monograph series offers architects and allied design professionals
a convenient and economical way to earn professional development
units and AIA learning units in health, safety, and welfare. NCARBs
monographs explore current and emerging topics ranging from sustainable
design to professional conduct. All monographs may be ordered online
through the NCARB web site. Monograph quizzes also may be taken
online, providing an efficient and timely means of earning HSW units.
