Written by Randall Stout, FAIA, CCIDC, and Michael Garrison, SBSE,

that give shape to habitable structures. The monograph also looks
at how the evolution of information technology has positively influenced
the design and construction of building envelopesso much so
that architects regularly experiment with unusual materials, forms,
and functions.
Divided into seven chapters, Building Envelope covers such
topics as types of envelopes, concepts associated with envelopes,
and related construction systems and material selection. The authors,
both of whom have significant experience in sustainable practices,
also investigate the advanced energy strategies now associated with
envelope performance. A final chapter reviews the complexities and
challenges of working with computer-generated envelopes. Two case
studies and several sidebars augment the main text. Appendices include
a detailed listing of resources and a comprehensive bibliography.
