Navigating firm culture, expanding your network and architectural industry knowledge, and meeting the Architectural Experience Program® (AXP®) requirements can be a challenge. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) component licensing advisors are a great resource for getting your licensure questions answered and making early progress on your licensure journey.

What is an AIA component licensing advisor?

Local AIA chapters appoint architect licensing advisors to help advance the next generation of architects in their chapter and community. They volunteer their time to help guide emerging professionals through the steps of the licensure process—providing insight on how to meet licensure requirements, study resources, tips for navigating the Architectural Experience Program® (AXP®), and more!

How can I find an AIA component licensing advisor?

Every AIA state chapter is expected to have an appointed architect licensing advisor. You can find contact information from your chapter’s appointed advisor via our Licensing Advisors Lookup Tool.

Don’t see an advisor listed for your school or AIA component? Please contact your school or chapter leadership and inquire about who is in this role, or share the position description with them to determine how to appoint an advisor!

How can I become an AIA component licensing advisor?

State AIA chapters appoint architect licensing advisors to represent their organization and support candidates in their community.  To become an AIA component licensing advisor, you must be an architect or licensure candidate actively pursuing licensure. Serving as a volunteer architect licensing advisor for at least one year is preferred, but not required.

AIA component licensing advisors serve two-year terms with renewal determined by the component.

2025 Licensing Advisors Summit

A three-day training and networking event, the Licensing Advisors Summit is designed to build up your knowledge and skills and provide you with new ideas for engaging with your local community.
