Candidates who are currently working to become licensed architects in the U.S. can encounter unexpected questions on their licensure path, such as how to find study resources for the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®), how to gain hours in an area of the Architectural Experience Program® (AXP®), or which jurisdictions will accept licenses based on a specific educational background.

Architect licensing advisors are NCARB volunteers who have the answers to these questions and many more! You can search for licensing advisors throughout the U.S. with our licensing advisor lookup tool.

Find Your Licensing Advisor

In addition to our national network, licensing advisors may represent your school, your architecture firm, or a local chapter of student organizations like the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) and the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS). Architecture programs accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) are also required to have an appointed advisor.

These volunteers can help with everything from setting up your NCARB Record or understanding how to become eligible for the exam to more complex questions related to international licensure, non-traditional education, or what to do after failing an exam division. Advisors can also assist architects with earning a license in another jurisdiction or becoming NCARB certified. Find your licensing advisor to meet your licensure goals.
