Licensing Boards Are Open—Get the Latest Updates for Your Jurisdiction

As our community navigates the COVID-19 pandemic, we know this is a difficult and stressful period for you, the architecture community, and our local governments—including state licensing boards. Over the last few weeks, we have all adjusted our lives to help keep our communities safe. While we are all adapting to a new normal, your licensing board’s work to ensure the public health, safety, and welfare has never been more important.

NCARB is closely following the ongoing developments and is working hard to provide you with the services you need in this time of uncertainty. Additionally, we are working closely with each of the 55 U.S. architectural licensing boards to ensure they have the tools and support to continue to provide essential services.

To date, 54 of the 55 U.S. state and territorial boards are open and providing service to customers. Currently, the Guam board is closed until further notice.

Boards are reviewing a number of policies to provide flexibility during this time, including renewal deadlines, continuing education (CE) requirements, and open meeting acts. NCARB is closely tracking changes, and we encourage you to visit your board’s website for updates.

Boards are still providing essential services for customers and the public. Although a board’s office may be closed, board members are still meeting, and board employees are working remotely and are able to address any questions you may have. Please note services may vary from board to board, and there may be a delay if you have mailed in your paperwork.  

Earn a reciprocal license. You can still apply for a license in additional states. Boards continue to process applications and work with NCARB to send applicants’ NCARB Records to other jurisdictions for licensure when requested.

Testing centers remain closed. To ensure you don’t lose Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) credit, we’re applying a nine-month rolling clock extension to all divisions that were passed as of March 1, 2020. Plus, all rescheduling fees are currently waived.
