How much does the ARE cost?

How many hours do I need to document to complete the AXP?

To complete the AXP, you will need to document a minimum number of hours in each of the six experience areas (totaling 3,740 required hours), performing the tasks identified under six experience areas. Learn more about the AXP’s requirements.

How many CEH does my jurisdiction require for licensure renewal?

Most of the 55 jurisdictions require architects to earn CEH before each license renewal. Find out if your board requires CEH through our  Licensing Requirements Tool.

How long does it take for approved hours to appear in my Record?

Approved experience hours are immediately viewable in your AXP hour totals. You may need to log out of your NCARB Record and log back in for the update(s) to appear.

How is the ARE scored?

The ARE is scored by computer against a passing standard (or cut score) that is carefully set with the help of many practicing architects, educators, and testing experts. Each question on the exam is worth one point, and there is no partial credit. Learn more.

How do I use the NCARB credential?

Only architects with an active NCARB Certificate number can use the “NCARB” credential. For example: Your Name, NCARB.

How do I take a Continuum Education quiz?

After you download your Continuum Education course, you’ll have two years and two opportunities to finish the quiz. If you would like to re-take the quiz for a third time, please contact our Customer Relations team at 202-879-0520. Subsequent retakes cost $25 each.

How do I start the foreign architect path to certification?

Before applying, confirm that the U.S. jurisdiction where you're seeking reciprocal licensure accepts NCARB Certificates obtained through this path by checking NCARB’s Licensing Requirements Tool. Then, establish an NCARB Record. Next, add your foreign registration to your NCARB Record, and then confirm your interest in the Foreign Architect Path when the prompt is shown. Learn more.
