Washington, DC—Andrew W. Prescott, AIA, of Potomac, MD, was installed as president of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) at its 90th Annual Meeting and Conference in Chicago. Prescott has served the profession and NCARB in many capacities for more than 30 years. Most recently, he served as the Council’s first vice president (2009) and treasurer (2007-2008). Prior to that, he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues from the U.S. jurisdictions of Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia, who elected him director of Region 2 in 2006.
As NCARB president, Prescott will continue to guide the implementation of the Council’s Strategic Plan with a focus on improving customer service, updating the Intern Development Program (IDP) requirements to more closely align with the current practice of architecture, and upholding the integrity of the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®).
Prescott first became involved with NCARB in 1988. Since then he has been a thoughtful and proactive member of more than 40 committees and task forces that support NCARB’s examination, internship, and education programs, and served as chair of 15 of them. In 2008, Prescott received the NCARB President’s Medal for Distinguished Service in recognition of his more than three decades of service to both the Council and the profession of architecture.
His long-time dedication to the profession includes serving on the Maryland Board of Architects for five years (2000-2005), and on the New York State Board for Architects for 10 years (1987-1996) including one year as chair (1995). In addition, he was a member of National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) teams that assessed the architectural curricula at Southern California Institute of Architecture, Columbia University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Beyond his professional responsibilities, Prescott is a leader within his community and currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture.

Prescott earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Architecture degree from RPI. He holds the NCARB Certificate for national reciprocity and is registered to practice architecture in California, Maryland, and New York.
