Washington, DC—2018-2019 NCARB President-elect Terry L. Allers, FAIA, NCARB, Hon. FCARM, was elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in February 2019.
This distinguished fellowship recognizes architects for their individual achievements, as well as their contributions to society and the profession. Allers was honored for his efforts to “actively, efficiently, and cooperatively” lead the regulation of architecture. The 2019 Fellows will be honored at an investiture ceremony during the annual AIA Conference on Architecture in Las Vegas.

Allers has served as a member of the Iowa Architectural Examining Board for nine years, including several terms as board chair. His volunteer work with NCARB includes service on the Audit, Broadly Experienced Architect, Education, Examination, Experience, and Experience Advisory committees, as well as terms as secretary/treasurer and vice chair of Region 4. Allers was elected as first vice president/president-elect at the 2018 NCARB Annual Business Meeting in Detroit, Michigan, and will be inaugurated as the organization’s president at the Centennial Annual Business Meeting in June 2019. He has also represented NCARB on the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accreditation teams since 2009, having served as a visiting team member on three visits and as chair of a fourth visiting team.
In addition to his service to the regulation of the profession, Allers is president of Allers Associates Architects, PC, which he founded in 1979. He has been an NCARB Certificate holder and member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 1974. He also served on the Iowa Chapter of the AIA Board of Directors for three years and has been on numerous AIA committees. Allers is a graduate of Iowa State University and is licensed in Iowa and Minnesota.
Several NCARB volunteers were also elected to the College of Fellows including: New Jersey Member Board Member Robert Cozzarelli, FAIA, who serves on NCARB’s Certificate Alternatives Review Team; NewSchool Undergraduate Program of Architecture & Design Chair Mitra Kanaani, FAIA, who is a member of NCARB’s Education Committee; Marc B. Spector, FAIA, who served on NCARB’s FY18 Strategic Focus Group; and former Oregon Member Board Member William K. Wilson, FAIA, who has previously been a member of several NCARB volunteer initiatives.
