Thomas D. Lonardo

Scottsdale, AZ—Thomas D. Lonardo, RA, NCARB, of Cranston, Rhode Island, was elected as a regional director at the National Council of Architectural Registration Board's (NCARB) 2025 Annual Business Meeting. Lonardo was nominated to serve on the NCARB Board of Directors by Region 1 (New England Council of Architectural Registration Boards), which represents the licensing boards of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

Lonardo has served as chair of the Rhode Island Board of Examination and Registration of Architects since 2017, having previously held the position of secretary from 2015-2017. He was elected by his peers to serve as the chair of Region 1 in 2023, after serving as vice chair from 2020-2022 and secretary/treasurer from 2017-2019.

As a dedicated volunteer, Lonardo has served on the NCARB Professional Conduct Committee, the Diversity Collaborative, the Responsible Charge Task Force, and the Regional Realignment Work Group. He has also been a member of the Policy Advisory Committee and currently serves on the Regional Leadership Committee. An NCARB Certificate holder since 1992, Lonardo has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to advancing the architectural profession at the national level. He is also an active member of the City of Warwick Building Board of Appeals, a contributor to the Rhode Island Design Professionals/Building Officials Workgroup, and a neutral arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association. 

Lonardo is principal of the nationally recognized and award-winning firm Thomas Lonardo + Associates Architects, which he founded in 1990. He earned his license to practice architecture in 1990, and holds the NCARB Certificate for national reciprocity. He is a graduate of the University of Miami and is licensed in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards’ membership is made up of the architectural licensing boards of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NCARB, in collaboration with these boards, facilitates the licensure and credentialing of architects to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.  

To achieve these goals, NCARB works with its Member Boards and volunteers to develop and facilitate standards for licensure, including the national examination and experience program.
