Minneapolis, MN—John Patrick Rademacher, NCARB, AIA, NOMA, of Loveland, Ohio, was inaugurated as president of the National Council of Architectural Boards (NCARB) at the organization’s Annual Business Meeting. Over the next year, Rademacher will lead the organization, which facilitates licensure and credentialing for architects in the United States.

As president, Rademacher will prioritize expanding access to the profession through NCARB’s Pathway to Practice initiative. The multi-year effort is reimagining the licensure process by refreshing core programs and increasing accessibility for candidates—all while preserving high standards that protect the public.

“This coming year will be one of action as NCARB mobilizes its efforts to set the table for an evolved approach to licensure. As we look to the future, I will continue to advocate for the exploration of new pathways that promote accessibility and fairness,” Rademacher said. “We believe that licensure can evolve into something even more meaningful, more practical, more inclusive, more reflective of the world we serve while remaining grounded in rigor, integrity, and defensible, science-based standards.”

Rademacher is a former member of the Ohio Architects Board, where he served terms as the board’s secretary, vice president, and president. In 2020, Rademacher was elected by his peers to NCARB’s Board of Directors as the director of Region 4, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Shortly after joining the Ohio Architects Board, Rademacher began contributing his time and expertise to NCARB’s volunteer initiatives. Most recently, he chaired the Regional Leadership, Audit, and Experience committees. He has also served as the Board liaison to the Member Board Executives Committee, Futures Collaborative, Examination Committee, and Incidental Practice Task Force. Rademacher has also been a valuable member of NCARB’s Continuing Education Committee, Diversity Collaborative, Policy Advisory Committee, and U.S./U.K. Competencies Review Team.

Rademacher is past president of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Cincinnati chapter. On the national level, he served on the AIA Government Advocacy Committee, where he helped develop the Citizen Architect Program and promote the organization’s legislative efforts. Closer to home, Rademacher volunteered on the Cincinnati Climate Protection Steering Committee, local zoning commissions, and several youth-oriented organizations, including Boy Scouts of America and coaching for youth sports programs.

With more than 40 years of experience in design, architecture, development, and construction, Rademacher is currently a senior vice president at Elevar Design Group in Cincinnati. He received a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). Rademacher holds the NCARB Certificate for national reciprocity and is licensed to practice architecture in more than 20 states, as well as interior design in Florida.
