
Kenneth R. Van Tine, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, of Brighton, Michigan, is NCARB’s FY26 past president. Van Tine has been a member of NCARB since 1986. His service to the organization began in 2011 as a member of the Michigan Board of Architects. In addition to being an active member of NCARB’s Region 4, he has served on the Audit, Procedures and Documents, and Regional Leadership committees, as well as the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) 5.0 Item Development Subcommittee. Additionally, Van Tine has served as the Board of Director’s liaison to the Professional Conduct Committee and has represented NCARB on the board of directors for its software development subsidiary, Lineup®. Van Tine has also represented NCARB as a member of several National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) visiting teams. Following terms in several officer positions on the NCARB Board of Directors, Van Tine was inaugurated as president at NCARB’s 2024 Annual Business Meeting.
Van Tine worked for many years as the technical design principal, Chief Financial Officer, and founding partner of INFORM studio—a multidisciplinary design firm of 40, with offices in Detroit and Chicago that practices throughout the United States and internationally. In 2025, Van Tine retired from INFORM studio and started a new firm, Van Tine Architects, LLC.
As an active AXP supervisor and a volunteer counselor for teens and young adults at his local church, Van Tine is dedicated to guiding and mentoring young professionals; he has also participated in the AIA Mentorship Program for nearly eight years. His firm has produced seven recipients of the AIA Detroit and/or AIA Michigan Young Architects Award, with the latest receiving the AIA National Young Architects Award. Van Tine holds an NCARB Certificate and has held licenses to practice in Michigan and 37 other states and jurisdictions.
